Abstract

This article considers the adequacy of the usage of various two-parameter differential turbulence models for the calculation of supersonic non-calculative (overexpanded and underexpanded) gas jet flowing into the environment that have a pressure equal to atmospheric. A brief historical background on the development of methods for calculating turbulent supersonic jet, which contain developed shock wave structures, is given. For each considered turbulence model the basic relations, the values of empirical constants, general advice and experience of their usage for the calculation of various flows are provided. According to the results of tests the turbulence model that showed the best results are selected, the failures of the other models are explained. This study may be of interest to engineers using computational packages of gas-dynamics to calculate aerospace products.
